Facebook May Introduce Hashtags
People find it odd seeing their friends post hashtags on Facebook. Although hashtags (keywords preceded with a pound sign, like #hashtag) do not work in Facebook, they actually work if their FB account is connected to Twitter. But a report from Wall Street Journal suggests that Facebook may make those pounded words functional within the social network.

Hashtags are currently incorporated on Twitter, Google+, and Facebook-owned Instagram. Apart from being a basis for silly trending topics, hashtags work as a way to index conversations around a particular topic. Sources who are “familiar with the matter” tells Wall Street Journal that Facebook is working on the feature, but it might take a while to be released.
For Mashable’s Emily Price, hashtags in Facebook would make sense. “Hashtags seem like the natural evolution of Facebook’s newly-released Graph Search,” she writes. “Adding hashtag support would enable an expansion of that search functionality, letting users tune into public posts based around certain topics such as #Elections or #HarlemShake as well.”
Spokesperson for Facebook, naturally, tells the press they “do not comment on rumor or speculation.”
